I think the real question we should be asking is weather the little mermaid is actually about a girl abendoning her home kingdom and immigrating to a new place, giving up her culture and her unique voice to assimilate within human society. Weather her daughter’s longing for the sea is actually the story of a second generation immigrant child who knows she’s different and wants to feel a connection to her mother’s culture despite her mother abendoning it for a new world.
